DesignFest 2017 Block Party: "Did You Notice?", Sept. 9-10, 2017
Interactive installation in partnership with Miller Hayashi Architects at Occidental Park. Did You Notice? is a structure that conveys the design review process through a series of thresholds representing memory, public action and comment, and proposed development - and prompts passersby to engage and ‘densify’ the final threshold with opinions of how the public process can better serve the Seattle community. Feedback left at the site was then shared with City Council during their 9/11 meeting on Design Review modifications. More info here.
Vanishing Seattle Holiday Happy Hour Meetup
December 14, 2016
Bush Garden, International District
The Vanishing Seattle community had its first ever meetup December 2016 at the much loved Bush Garden, (which has been bought and occupied by developer Solterra). We got to hear from Bush Garden's owner & community activists about the history and importance of the Bush, how it and the larger Chinatown International District is being threatened by development and displacement, and how folks can support the Bush in its transition. You can read more about the rich history of Bush Garden here and here. If you're interested in staying updated and supporting the Bush, contact BushGardenCommunity@gmail.com or go here.
Shelf Life Stories project also shared their storytelling & documentation work around the upcoming closing of the Red Apple/Promenade and the gentrification of the Central District.
Plus, we did a giveaway of T-shirts from local small biz including Fantagraphics, Nate's Wings & Waffles, Georgetown Records, and The Streamline Tavern. And of course, Karaoke!!
Monthly Meetups (organized with @seattle_artifacts, @historicseattle, @seattlejunklove, @space24retro & more!)
Come hang with us at various historic Seattle watering holes!
Next Meetup: TBA
